At ProWine Mumbai, We had the pleasure of meeting Daniel Opalco, who guided us through an unforgettable tasting of Cricova’s finest wines and spirits. Known for their consistent quality and refined style, Cricova perfectly captured the essence of Moldovan winemaking in every glass.

Sparkling Wine

We began the journey with Cricova’s signature sparkling wine - elegant, bright, and full of life. With its fine bubbles and refreshing balance, it was a beautiful expression of precision and celebration, ideal for both special occasions and quiet moments alike.

Ice Wine

Next came the remarkable Ice Wine, an experience in pure indulgence. Lusciously sweet yet perfectly balanced, it offered layers of honey, apricot, and citrus, showcasing the craftsmanship required to create dessert wines from frozen grapes.

Still Wines (Reds and Rosé)

Cricova’s still wines demonstrated both character and finesse.

  • The Pinot Noir stood out for its silky texture and subtle elegance — a graceful expression of the variety.

  • Codru and Cabernet Sauvignon impressed with bold fruit, satisfying depth, and warm complexity.

  • The Vin Virgin, a pure Merlot crafted with minimal interference, reflected honesty and authenticity. It moved beautifully from currant to oak and wild cherries, leaving a smooth, lasting finish.

  • Magnific, made from raisined Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, offered richness and depth — full of prunes, blackcurrant, and sweet spice, layered and memorable.

  • The Rosé added a charming freshness with its light, floral finish, making it a delightful contrast to the deeper reds.

Pastoral Dessert Wine

The Pastoral de Cricova was a standout — deeply aromatic, velvety, and indulgent. With its rich notes of ripe berries, chocolate, and soft sweetness, it struck a perfect balance between decadence and harmony, truly a showcase of Cricova’s craftsmanship.

Divin (Brandy)

We concluded with Cricova’s Divin brandies, aged 5 and 7 years. Both were smooth and refined, offering gentle notes of vanilla, oak, and spice. Each sip reflected precision, patience, and the deep tradition behind Moldova’s distilling excellence.

From sparkling elegance to soulful reds and distinguished brandies, Cricova presented a masterclass in balance, purity, and artistry — a collection we’d love to see celebrated more widely in India.
