As someone who enjoys exploring different gins, I recently had the chance to try Tanqueray London Dry Gin for the first time. It was a single tasting, but it gave me a clear sense of how a classic London Dry expresses itself through straightforward juniper led flavours.
The first thing I noticed was the aroma. As soon as I opened the bottle, there was an immediate and focused hit of juniper, the familiar pine like note that defines this style. Behind it, I could pick up lighter hints of citrus and a mild herbal character that added a bit of freshness.
On the palate, the gin followed the same direction. The juniper came through cleanly at the start, followed by bright citrus flavours that reminded me of lemon zest or bitter orange. A gentle warmth, likely from coriander, added a subtle spice in the mid palate. The finish was dry and uncomplicated, with a lingering touch of pine and citrus before fading.
I tried it in a simple Gin and Tonic, and the character translated clearly into the drink. The juniper stayed noticeable, while the citrus notes seemed to open up slightly with the tonic’s carbonation, making it crisp and easy to enjoy.
Even though this was just a one time tasting, it offered a solid introduction to a traditional London Dry profile. It showed me what the style aims to highlight: juniper at the forefront, supported by citrus brightness and a clean finish. As first impressions go, it was a pleasant way to experience a classic expression of gin.
